About Us
The Tau Beta Pi Association is the second oldest honor society in the country, founded in 1885 to mark in a fitting manner those who have conferred honor upon their Alma Mater by distinguished scholarship and exemplary character as students in engineering, or by their attainments as alumni in the field of engineering, and to foster a spirit of liberal culture in engineering colleges. Our membership requirements are more stringent than virtually any other engineering honor society, admitting only juniors in the top eighth of their class and seniors in the top fifth. Candidates for membership are selected by invitation only. Membership in Tau Beta Pi is only granted to those who have also demonstrated exemplary character in addition to excellent grades. We honor engineering students as great people, not merely as great scholars.

The Florida Eta chapter at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering was founded in February of 1992. Today, Florida Eta chapter represents the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering's top students of all departments. The chapter works in the community volunteering at charities and performing community outreach activities. All majors offered at the College of Engineering are potentially eligible for membership. Tau Beta Pi is the only honor society that represents the entire engineering profession.

The bent is the official badge of the association, a watch key in the form of the bent of a trestle. Our College has a wooden monument of the bent in Building A, right in front of the main door.
The member initiation process is exclusive in nature, only revealed to those who have first been evaluated as candidates, tested in their character, and elected into the organization as full members by the current membership. Its memory is one that our alumni continue to cherish long after graduation as one of the cornerstones of their college experience. We offer initiation once in the Fall semester and once in the Spring. Initiates are honored with a commemorative certificate, membership card, a 4-year subscription to The Bent magazine, and a name-engraved bent pin or bent charm.

Once initiated, new members take advantage of the host of opportunities and benefits we offer:
Professional Development
Although Tau Beta Pi recognizes its members as distinguished scholars and people, membership comes with the expectation of continuing in personal and professional development. Our best-known professional development program is the award-winning Engineering Futures program, which provides engineering students with the soft skills needed for a successful career that are rarely taught in school.
Networking and Community
Through Tau Beta Pi, top engineering students have the opportunity to get to know each other and come together to serve and mentor to our community, both at the College of Engineering and locally. We have an obligation to help our fellow students who are struggling, and our chapter provides a means to that end. In addition to service, we also offer social activities that are just for fun!
Fellowships and Scholarships
The national Association awards up to 30 fellowships of $10,000 to engineering students for graduate study and up to 250 scholarships of $2,000 to undergraduate engineering students in their senior year.
And membership is lifetime--you pay dues only once.

Our dedicated members enjoy coming together for different events and activities. Passion and enthusiasm go hand-in-hand with everything we do. If there were ever a time to dare, to make a difference, to embark on something worth doing, it is now.

Do it right."
