The Road to Initiation

There are six major steps to becoming a member of the Florida Eta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi.

1. Invitation

Within the first few weeks of the semester, all candidates will receive an email inviting them to our Orientation Meeting. Tau Beta Pi candidates are those juniors with GPAs in the top eighth of their class, seniors with GPAs in the top fifth of their class, or graduate students who have completed 50% of their course work and have a GPA placing them in the top fifth of their class.

2. Orientation Meeting

The Orientation Meeting serves as an interest meeting to those who wish to become a member of Tau Beta Pi. In the Orientation Meeting, the Character Evaluation Requirements are outlined.

3. Character Evaluation

To become a Tau Beta Pi member, you must meet both the scholastic and exemplary character requirements. Each chapter has a different way of evaluating exemplary character.

3. Membership Vote

Upon completion of the Florida-Eta Character Evaluation Requirements, the current active members of Tau Beta Pi vote on each candidate. If voted to become a member, you will receive an email confirmation and your status changes to electee. You will also recieve an invitation to the Electee Meeting.

4. Electee Meeting

The Electee Meeting is meant to prepare electees for what to expect at Initiation. This is the last opportunity to ask any questions before membership is established.

5. Membership Acceptance

If one chooses to accept their membership, they will need to officially do so with the chapter, submit a catalog card, and pay their one-time initiation fee of $105. Upon completion of these things, the electee will receive an email inviting them to the Initiation Ceremony.

6. Initiation

The Initiation Ceremony is a special occasion to welcome those engineering students who have conferred honor upon their Alma Mater by demonstrating distinguished scholarship and exemplary character. Attending the Initiation Ceremony is the final step to changing your official status, to member.
